COLOSSIANS SERIES

TEXT: Colossians1:1-8

FAITH, HOPE & LOVE - these three words are the greatest words in the gospel and are descriptive of God's amazing grace!

A GREETING OF GRACE

  • From an Apostle - vs. 1
  • Why did Paul assert his apostleship?
  • Two reasons: 1) He hadn't been there, they didn't know him well, and they were having problems (false teachers).     2) They needed to hear and recieve his authoritative word.
  • To The Saints - vs.2a
  • "In Christ" - vs.27 - Position
  • "In Colossae" - Place
  • "With Grace" - vs. 2b - Colossians 4:6
  • God's Riches At Christ's Expense

THE GOSPEL OF GRACE

  • The Words of the Gospel - vs.3-5
  • 1 Thessalonians 1:3
  • FAITH - faith is anchored by past but lived in by present
  • Colossians 2:6 - past tense and present tense
  • Forsaking All I Trust Him
  • Walk by faith (present) How? - Romans 1:16-17, 10:17
  • Exercising it - USING your faith!
  • LOVE
  • Colossians 1:8, 2:2, 3:14
  • Supernatural Love - is not "pampering" love but "perfecting" love
  • The Love of the spirit in us is the tie that binds us
  • HOPE
  • Hope doesn't mean "hope so"- it's a certain hope.
  • Colossians 1:27 - The hope of eternal life is as real as Jesus Himself. Our hope is "laid up" by Jesus Himself.
  • Heaven has two dimensions 1) Here (Jphn10:10)    2) Hereafter (John 14:3)
  • 1 Peter 1:3-5

THE GROWTH OF GRACE

  • The Works of the Gospel - vs. 5b-8
  • The Seed of the Word - vs. 5b
  • Life is in the word - the seed (Parable of the Sower - Mathew 13)
  • Seven Laws of the Harvest:
  • LAW ONE: WE REAP ONLY WHAT HAS BEEN SOWN
  • LAW TWO: WE REAP THE SAME IN KIND AS WE HAVE SOWN
  • LAW THREE: WE REAP IN A DIFFERENT SEASON THAN WE SOW
  • LAW FOUR: WE REAP MORE THAN WE SOW
  • LAW FIVE: WE REAP IN PROPORTION TO WHAT WE SOW
  • LAW SIX: WE REAP THE FULL HARVEST ONLY IF WE PERSEVERE
  • LAW SEVEN: WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT LAST YEARS HARVEST BUT WE CAN ABOUT THIS YEAR'S
  • The Souls of the World - vs.6
  • The Success of a Witness - vs.7-8
  • Epephras, who was one of them, brought the gospel to them.
  • We take the responsibility to share our faith. God blesses us and it.

CONCLUSION

Sometimes we need a spiritual check up - diagnose the problem and prescribe a solution.

Paul was writing a prescription for the church of Colossae.  He said check your faith, love and hope.  Jesus is the specialist who can fix the problem if we'll surrender to Him.  Maybe, you're lacking in faith, love and hope today.  Jesus is ready to meet you and definitely fix the problem.
